- Eligibility:
- The Hawler International Short Film Festival is open to filmmakers worldwide.
- Films must belong to one of the following categories: Fiction, Documentary, or Animation.
- Submission Format:
- Films must be submitted in digital format via our online submission platform.
- Submissions must be in English or include English subtitles.
- Selection Process:
- All submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee.
- Filmmakers will be notified via email of their film’s acceptance status by September 15th 2024.
- Judging Criteria:
- Storytelling: Clarity, originality, and impact of the narrative.
- Direction: Skill in visual storytelling, pacing, and overall direction.
- Cinematography: Quality of visuals, lighting, and composition.
- Sound Design: Clarity, creativity, and integration of sound and music.
- Editing: Smoothness of transitions, pacing, and overall cohesion.
- Performance: Quality and authenticity of acting and character portrayal.
- Overall Impression: The emotional impact, creativity, and memorability of the film.
- Rights and Permissions:
- By submitting a film to the Hawler International Short Film Festival, filmmakers grant the festival the right to screen the film during the event.
- Filmmakers are responsible for securing all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions for their film.
- Additional Information:
- Only films produced in 2022 or later are eligible for submission. Films made before 2022 will not be accepted.
- Multiple entries are allowed, but each film must be submitted separately.
- Films that have been previously screened on other festivals in Kurdistan or broadcasted on Kurdish channels are not eligible for submission.
- The decision of the selection committee is final and cannot be appealed.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
Please read and adhere to the following rules and guidelines for the submission of your films:
Submission Fee:
Submission is free for all sections of the festival.
Number of Submissions:
Filmmakers can participate with one or more than one film.
Submission Form:
The submission form must be filled out by the owner of the film or somebody who is allowed to do that.
Additional Materials:
After completing the submission form, please send the following additional materials:
Synopsis of the film
Trailer or teaser
Several photos from the film
Film poster
Language Requirements:
If the movie is not in English, it must have English subtitles.
Film Duration:
The duration of the film must be less than 30 minutes.
Film Formats:
Movies should be submitted at least in Full HD format.
Copyright:
Participants must adhere to copyright rules for all elements contained within the movie.
Content Guidelines:
Movies should not contain scenes of violence, explicit sexual content, or racial and religious hatred
