The Hawler International Short Film Festival (HISFF) is held annually in the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government. It provides an opportunity to screen short films and gather filmmakers and film lovers to become acquainted with the latest Kurdish and international works. In this festival, we focus on women filmmakers who have not been able to express their talents and abilities in this field.
It is worth mentioning that one of the most important responsibilities of festivals is to prepare professional spectators to discuss and analyze artistic movies. The Hawler International Short Film Festival works to spread and develop the culture of watching films in cinemas.
Strategy&policy:
The festival believes that Kurdish cinema has not developed properly in terms of artistic form and is also entangled in the same old themes and contents. One of the most important ways to solve these problems is to give a breakthrough generation of filmmakers the opportunity to work with a new perspective. The Hawler International Short Film Festival aims to be an opportunity to meet filmmakers, identify the problems of Kurdish cinema, and try to present solutions
Procedures:
The most important and fastest way to promote Kurdish cinema is to find and encourage a radical generation; therefore, the main focus of this festival is on the youth. Previous generations of Kurdish filmmakers can also pass on their experiences and knowledge to the youth through this festival. The Hawler International Short Film Festival invites young foreign filmmakers to familiarize the Kurdish audience with new trends in artistic cinema. For this purpose, we try to select the latest and most prominent short films from famous festivals and screen them.
